Screen Mirroring: What It is and How to Use It

Are you tired of watching movies on your cell phone? If only there was a way to view your cell phone screen on the big screen of your TV.

Well you’re in luck, because this feature actually exists!

Find out how to use screen mirroring in this article.

How does screen mirroring work?

Screen mirroring broadcasts (or mirrors) your smartphone, tablet or laptop screen to your TV screen. In other words, anything you see on the screen of your device is shown on a bigger screen. This feature is useful for viewing videos, photos, and more.

For this to work, your TV must be connected to Wi-Fi. Otherwise, you need to connect a receiver to it, such as a Chromecast, Apple TV or Amazon Firestick. Your device must also have the necessary software to connect to the receiver. For example, iPhones released in 2011 or later all have the AirPlay feature, which enables screen mirroring with Apple TV.

How to use screen mirroring on your cell phone

Technological advances now make screen mirroring very easy on mobile devices. Whether you have an Apple or Android device, there is a software available to duplicate your own screen.

Connect your Apple device to your TV with AirPlay

Apple AirPlay is very easy to use. Once your Apple device is ready to screen share (meaning close to an Apply TV), the AirPlay icon will appear in the cell phone menu. Click this icon to have the screen mirroring option displayed and activate it.

Screen mirroring with Android devices

There are multiple ways to use screen mirroring with Android devices, but the most common one is with Google Chromecast.

Google Chromecast connects your Android device to your TV. This small device plugs into your TV’s HDMI port and can project web pages from the Google Chrome browser or other compatible apps (Netflix, Facebook, YouTube, etc.).

You must first connect your Chromecast to the same Wi-Fi network as your Android device. You then simply need to click on the “Cast” button that will appear on the screen of your smartphone to connect to your Chromecast.

Screen mirroring: a practical feature for any smartphone

In conclusion, screen mirroring broadcasts your cell phone or tablet screen onto your TV screen. Apple devices require the AirPlay feature with an Apple TV, whereas the screen of Android devices can be broadcasted with a Google Chromecast.
